I have been a Netflix subscriber for years, I think I signed up when it was first introduced because of my hatred of Blockbuster and their late fees. I have a horrible memory and returning a movie was never a top priority. Even now I can't seem to put the DVD's in the mail with any kind of regularity.
But the streaming video they offer has saved many lazy days (I seem to have had an abundance of these since moving to Phoenix and finding myself jobless). I have used this "Watch Instantly" to view movies I would otherwise pass up. I wouldn't want to waste my DVD selection on an iffy movie that I may or may not enjoy. So I stream it online and if it fails to catch my interest I can simply move on to the next.
Brilliant!
One of my favorite seems to be a few movies starring Craig Ferguson (he's genuinely funny, who knew?). Saving Grace and I'll Be There are movies that I wouldn't have put in my DVD queue because I hadn't heard anything about them. Well, they are both funny and touching feel-good movies that I am glad I decided to watch. These aren't hard-hitting docudramas that set out to change the world, they are movies that set out to put a smile on your face while allowing you to escape the grimness of your own reality (ehem, can you see the appeal?).
There are also unfortunate movies available (Hudson Hawk?? Really Bruce Willis, what about a showtune singing cat burglar seemed like a good idea to you? hmm? I'd like to know).
If you have Netflix and haven't explored their "Watch Instantly" feature you might just be surprised at the wide variety of movies and TV shows available. If you don't have Netflix and prefer to be at the mercy of cable companies and the small fortune they require for movie channels, then good for you. You can ignore this post and move on to thinking of bunnies and fairies and rainbows.
Come to think of it, this may also be the reason I don't have any clean socks, the grocery shopping isn't done and my Christmas handicraft projects are yet to be started. Oops.

Blockbuster really is a horrible company and has not made many customers very happy at all. I'll bet they're saying to themselves constantly, "Why didn't WE think of that?!?"
